Gratitude Question 5: What’s an aspect of how you were parented for which you feel grateful?

I was taught hard work pays off. I figured out when I was very young that I could get money (allowance) for doing chores and then I could spend my money on what I wanted. My parents didn’t buy me everything I wanted. I watched them work hard. When I was 15 I got my first job and continued to work in high school and university. Because I understood the value of hard work I believe this made me resilient in university. I knew why I was there and I knew from previous experience that if I worked hard it would pay off and it did. That’s not to say that it wasn’t hard, that I didn’t cry, whine, and almost quit. It was the value instilled in me at a young age that got me through it all. Wes and I are trying to instill this same value in our kids.
